Straumann Group to distribute Medit intraoral scanners globally

  • Companies build on existing lab-scanner partnership to bring attractive intraoral scanning technology and solutions to dentists around the world
  • Medit complements Straumann’s broad range of integrated intraoral scanning solutions, supporting the Group’s strategic goal of creating the leading digital ecosystem in esthetic dentistry

Basel/Seoul, 21 December 2020: The Straumann Group and Medit today announced that they have entered a global distribution partnership for intraoral scanners, which becomes effective on 1 January 2021. The agreement builds on the partnership between the two companies that began in 2019 with the goal of broadening Straumann’s portfolio of dental lab scanning equipment. Under the new agreement, Straumann gains global distribution rights for Medit’s intraoral scanners for dental practices, complementing the Group’s current range and strengthening its position as a global partner of choice for integrated intraoral scanning solutions.

Based in Seoul, South Korea, Medit is a global provider of high-precision 3D scanning solutions for dental clinics and labs. It has continuously strengthened its presence in digital dentistry with highly popular intraoral and lab scanners that deliver excellent performance in a wide range of applications.

The agreement includes distribution rights for Medit i500 intraoral scanners, which will be integrated and connected to Straumann’s prosthetic and clear aligner workflow solutions. The strategic alliance includes the workflow between Medit’s open collaboration platform, Medit Link, and Straumann’s open software platforms for surgical planning, CADCAM prosthetics and treatment services like Smile-in-a-Box.

Intraoral scanning is a convenient modern alternative to unpleasant conventional methods of taking impressions of the patient’s teeth. Like other scanners in Straumann’s portfolio, Medit’s i500 is open for use with multiple systems but in combination with Straumann’s broad range of dental solutions, which spans corrective, restorative and replacement dentistry, they become part of a uniquely powerful ecosystem.

Guillaume Daniellot, CEO of the Straumann Group, commented: “A key strategic goal for the Straumann Group is to create the leading ecosystem for esthetic dentistry, connecting all our digital solutions, services and equipment with partners and third parties to provide seamless workflows for dentists and optimal treatment outcomes for patients. Intraoral scanners have a pivotal role in this and with Medit we will be able to include a very large segment of dentists for whom affordability has been a major hurdle”.

GB (Gyu Bum) Ko, CEO of Medit said: “We are pleased and proud to announce the partnership with the Straumann Group, a world-renowned corporation in the dental industry. Medit’s i500 intraoral scanner has been highly praised for its superb quality and excellent performance in dental applications. We are truly excited to get a step closer to attaining our vision of driving the adoption of digital dentistry through the partnership”.
