5 frequently asked questions about Straumann® Variobase coping on SRAs

The Straumann® Variobase system is well-known, but not many use it for full-arch restorations on Screw-retained abutments. Variobase copings can be used for temporary or final full-arch restorations, using in-house or centralized workflow. They offer easy cementation of copings and strong retention due to the cylindrical design with extra cams.

Read below the answers to the 5 most frequently asked questions about Straumann® Variobase copings on SRAs.

1.  Why is the Variobase coping so short?

The Variobase coping is 4 mm short, which is an optimal size for reliable retention. No more height is necessary, as the retention cams increase the cementable surface area helping to fix the coping.

2.  Why is the sandblasting not mandatory with Variobase copings on SRAs?

The sandblasting is not mandatory because the retentive cams increase the cementable surface.

3.  Is the cementation aid for Variobase on SRA mandatory?

No. When the implant divergence is compensated by SRA abutments, the cementation aid is usually not necessary.

4.  How many Variobase copings do I need for my BLT and/or BLX full-arch restorations on SRAs?

Only 2 copings will suit to all the diameters of abutments for both implant systems, regardless if straight or angled abutments.

5.  Why is the diameter of the screw-channel so small?

The diameter of the screw-channel is 2.9 mm to allow more restorative material instead of unnecessary metal, providing resistance while creating a more natural prosthesis.
