In the current issue of the newsletter, we would like to draw your attention on the article by Ghazal SS. et al published in the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants (JOMI).

The authors aimed to test the hypothesis that narrow-diameter titanium-zirconium implants with a chemically modified hydrophilic surface are not inferior in regard to crestal bone level change compared with standard-diameter implants with the same implant surface and material.

Appart from 100% survival of all implants included into the study, the authors report that the change in the mean crestal bone level from implant loading to 12 months follow up did not significantly differed between the standard and narrow diameter implant groups. Moreover, no significant differences were also found in gingival recession and patient satisfaction.

Therefore the data suggests noninferiority of the narrow- vs standard-diameter Ti-Zr implant with hydrophilic surface.
