Professor João Caramês is one of the pioneers and most respected experts in full-arch implant rehabilitation. Ambitious clinicians ready to take the next step can benefit from his extensive clinical experience and practical guidance to avoid common pitfalls and adopt techniques that have been validated in daily practice. In his Lisbon-based Caramês Advanced Education Center (CAEC), he offers immersive, hands-on clinical training and lectures centered around his globally recognized Caramês Classification for full-arch implant rehabilitation (CBCT-based, therapeutic bone height and width, host-related risk factors and patient biomechanics, patient expectations and financial capabilities - Webinar). His programs focus on patient-centric treatment pathways, immediate loading protocols, and advanced prosthetically driven planning for edentulous and terminal dentition cases

What are the challenges to enter the field of full-arch rehabilitation?

Clinicians who want to expand into full-arch rehabilitation often face the same question: "How can I start treating full-arch cases with confidence and predictable outcomes?" Many have experience with single implants or partially edentulous cases but hesitate to take the next step because full-arch treatments are perceived to be complex, technically demanding, and difficult to integrate into everyday practice.

The aim of Professor Caramês is seeing participants leave his course with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to bring predictable full-arch solutions to more patients.

A seamless approach to reduce complexity
The course of Professor João Caramês provides answers to these challenges by introducing a complete, clinically proven procedure.

  • Participants learn how to combine the Straumann iEXCEL™ system, the Pro Arch treatment concept, and a fully digital workflow into one seamless approach that simplifies planning, surgery, and restoration.
  • The result is a predictable pathway that helps clinicians reduce complexity and gain the confidence to successfully treat their first full-arch cases.
  • Ultimately, this course is about enabling clinicians to make the transition from a probably limited full-arch experience to becoming confident providers of modern, digitally driven full-arch rehabilitation.

Clinical and surgical protocols

  • Prosthetically driven approach: A properly designed prosthesis is developed prior to the surgical appointment to map vertical occlusal dimension (VDO) and smile lines.
  • Minimally invasive execution: The clinical philosophy leans heavily on graftless full-arch rehabilitation whenever possible.
  • Immediate loading: Predictable, immediate loading protocols aim to maximize patient satisfaction directly following implant placement.

Supported by Straumann's integrated ecosystem, evidence-based treatment concepts, and world-class education, the aim of Professor Caramês is seeing participants leave with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to bring predictable full-arch solutions to more patients.

The evidence behind a predictable full-arch workflow
The course is built on Caramês' extensive clinical experience, supported by scientific evidence. In his retrospective study of 882 patients, 1,200 edentulous jaws, and more than 6,000 implants, he was able to demonstrate that immediately loaded full-arch rehabilitations can achieve excellent long-term outcomes when treatment is adapted to each patient's anatomy and individual risk factors. Overall implant survival reached 98.2% after two years and 97.9% after five years, confirming the predictability of a structured, evidence-based treatment approach. A key finding of the study is that success does not depend on using a single treatment protocol for every patient. Instead, careful diagnosis, digital treatment planning, and selecting the appropriate treatment concept according to the level of bone atrophy enable consistently high implant survival rates across a wide range of clinical situations. These principles form the foundation of this course. Participants learn how to apply a systematic, digitally driven workflow that combines diagnosis, planning, surgery, and restoration into one predictable process — helping them confidently introduce full-arch rehabilitation into their daily practice while reducing clinical complexity. Key takeaways

  • Full-arch rehabilitation becomes significantly more approachable when clinicians follow a structured, digitally driven, evidence-based workflow rather than relying on isolated techniques.
  • Professor João Caramês combines decades of clinical expertise with strong scientific evidence to help clinicians confidently integrate predictable full-arch treatment into daily practice.
  • The course equips participants with practical knowledge, hands-on experience, and proven treatment concepts that reduce complexity while improving confidence and patient outcomes.
