An interview with Prof. Nicola Zitzmann from the University of Basel on what could be done to better prevent the incidence of peri-implantitis, the role of the patient, the diagnostics she would recommend to early diagnose peri-implant conditions, treatment methods, and the contribution of the industry in this.

Nicola Zitzmann

Professor at the Clinic for Periodontology, Endodontology and Cariology at the University of Basel (department deputy head). She received her dental degree at the University of Aachen, Germany in 1991, finished her doctoral dissertation in 1992 and worked as an assistant in private practice for 2.5 years. From 1994 to 1997, she completed the postgraduate program at the Department of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences in Zurich. From 1997, N. Zitzmann worked as Assistant Professor at the Department of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics and TMJ Disorders at the University of Basel and completed specialist training in reconstructive dentistry in 2001. She finished her habilitation thesis in prosthodontics in 2004. N. Zitzmann was a Visiting Assistant in the Department of Periodontology at the University of Göteborg, Sweden, and was awarded a PhD in the field of periodontology in 2006.
