Description

Many potential candidates for implant restoration of the fully edentulous maxilla are primarily interested in a fixed restoration as opposed to a tissue supported over denture. Pneumatized maxillary sinuses usually prohibit the placement of implants for posterior support for a fixed prosthesis following the immediate load graftless solution concept.   Tilting of distal implants to avoid anatomic structures or anchorage in the zygoma bone using the zygoma implant are the options available following the graftless concept. Considering the graftless approach allows for reduced treatment time, single-stage surgical reconstructions and immediate loading, this eliminates the need for transitional dentures, therefore, increasing treatment acceptance by patients.   Led by an experienced clinician and renowned author in implant dentistry, the comprehensive lecture portion of the program will explore the essential factors for delivering fixed implant-supported restorations for edentulous patients. Dr. Bedrossian will emphasize the biomechanical principles of zygomatic implant placement and examine the rationale behind the various design features of zygomatic implants. Following the lecture, participants will engage in a hands-on workshop to practice zygomatic implant placement on cadaver models, enhancing their practical skills and clinical understanding.

Learning objectives

  • To conduct pretreatment evaluation and determination of the final type of fixed prosthesis.
  • To understand prosthetic and surgical protocols for treatment of the edentulous maxilla.
  • To implement surgical protocols for placement of zygoma implants.
  • To administer the conversion protocol for patients' dentures to a fixed provisional, immediate load protocol.
  • To employ postoperative management of immediate load patients.
  • To examine final prosthetic designs and protocols.
  • To establish long-term, follow-up care for patients with zygomatic implants to ensure optimal outcomes and address potential complications.
