The fourth industrial revolution—the rise of artificial intelligence (AI)—is all around us. It’s reshaping society and transforming the tools we use every day, from transportation to communication. Dentistry is no exception. Over the past decade, AI has steadily gained ground in dental medicine. What began with basic applications for radiographic image detection and diagnostics has evolved to include increasingly sophisticated AI algorithms driving digital workflows, particularly in computer-assisted implant surgery (CAIS). This lecture will offer a historical overview of AI in dentistry, explore its current capabilities, and look ahead to its future disruptive potential for dental practices.
This session will be lead by Dr. Michael Bornstein, International Speaker and Professor of Oral Surgery and Dental Radiology
Dr. Bornstein earned his PhD from the University of Basel in 2001 and became a board-certified Oral Surgeon in 2003 after advanced training in Oral Surgery and Stomatology. He previously served as Clinical Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at The University of Hong Kong before returning to Basel as Clinical Director and Professor at the University Centre for Dental Medicine. Since 2019, he has also held the role of Associate Dean of Research & Innovation at the Faculty. A pioneer in Cone Beam CT and implant dentistry, he has contributed to international CBCT guidelines and ITI consensus reports, establishing himself as a leading authority in dental radiology and oral surgery.

Dr. Imburgia graduated with honors in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics and holds a PhD in Periodontology from the University of Palermo. He has served as an Assistant Clinical Teacher at the University of Warwick, Visiting Professor at multiple UK dental schools, and is currently Adjunct Professor at the University of Rochester. He lectures widely across Italian universities on esthetic and digital dentistry and is an active member and fellow of several prestigious international dental academies. A frequent international speaker and published author, he also maintains a private practice in Palermo and Milan.

Dr. Daniela Felipucci is a Brazilian specialist in Prosthodontics and Oral Rehabilitation, based in Switzerland. She holds a DDS, MSc, Ph.D., and an MBA from the University of Sao Paulo. With 17 years in corporate Medical Education, she is Vice President, Head of Strategic Projects Medical Education at Straumann Group, leading global initiatives in education and digital transformation. She co-founded the Women Implantology Network and spearheaded the #TimeForEducation campaign during the pandemic, revolutionizing digital learning at Straumann. Her contributions earned her recognition as Manager of the Year in 2017 and 2020, as well as ambassador roles in Culture and Digital Transformation.
