What to Expect During Healing

After your implant surgery, the healing phase will usually last between a couple of weeks and a few months. Ideally during this period, the bone around the implant grows and integrates with the implant surface – a process called osseointegration. Good oral hygiene is vital in the healing stage of the treatment. Once healed, this artificial root acts as a base for your new crowns.

Right after your surgery, you may experience some swelling that can be treated with ice or cool packs. Patients often report minimal pain, and you should take any pain medication only as prescribed. Your stitches will be removed about seven to ten days after your procedure.

It’s important to follow all of your dental team’s post-surgery instructions and attend all follow-up appointments.
