Description

This presentation will discuss the planning and treatment dilemmas of implant tooth replacement where the teeth have been lost due to periodontitis. Implant treatment in periodontal patients requires a careful multidisciplinary approach and acceptance (by the clinician and patient) of the high-risk nature of the treatment. Tooth failure due to periodontal disease is often associated with significant bone loss in vertical and horizontal dimensions and therefore there are challenges of available bone volume, positioning of implants, and long clinical crowns. To discuss the challenges and limitations of implant treatment in periodontal patients To outline a multidisciplinary approach to obtain function and aesthetics over time To consider the different surgical techniques to augment hard and soft tissues in conjunction with implant treatment To discuss the prognosis of both stable periodontal teeth and implants in periodontal patients in the long term.
