Prosthodontic management of the edentulous arches with removable or fixed restorative options is a complex and challenging procedure. Abutment and material selection is an important part of this treatment phase and play a crucial role for the long term biological and mechanical success. In this presentation, the decision-making process, different types of abutments and prosthetic materials used in edentulous patients will be described and discussed.
