Welcome to your self-guided training experience. This step-by-step journey will help you get started with your intraoral scanner at your own pace.

You’ll be guided through each key stage—from preparation and unboxing to setup and completing your first scan. Follow the steps in order to ensure a smooth start and build confidence using your scanner from day on

Alternatively, you can choose On-Site Support Training, where one of our trainers visits your location to guide you through the process and help you get the most out of your intraoral scanner with hands-on support.

Go to the unboxing videos and select your purchased scanner model. Follow the step-by-step instructions to unpack your equipment and verify that all components are included.

Once you have completed the unboxing process, continue to the Setup step.

With the preparation complete, it's time to put your scanner into action. Follow your training, take your time, and remember that confidence comes with practice. Every scan is a step toward a more efficient digital workflow.

Your trainer will take care of the installation and configuration of your scanner, ensuring everything is set up​ correctly and ready for use. This allows more time to focus on hands-on training, workflows, and getting the most of ​your scanner from day one.​

Session 2, takes place digitally once you have settled in with your scanner and feel comfortable using it. During session, we will follow up, answering any questions you may have, and help you get the most out of your digital workflow.​

We recommend that all team members who will use the scanner attend, including clinicians and support staff. This ensures everyone is confident and aligned from day one.

Best practice for better scanning

Start with a stable reference area

Begin scanning on the non-prep side or anterior teeth to establish strong, immovable reference points and ensure accurate alignment from the start.

Ensure clear visibility with tissue management

Maintain a dry field and retract the tongue and cheeks effectively. Clean surfaces help produce seamless stitching and better scan data.

Maintain your scanner for performance

Keep the front glass clean and free of scratches or water marks, and run SIRIOS Calibration (FIXME) regularly to ensure consistent accuracy and optimal image quality.

Capture prep margins efficiently

Aim for a single, smooth pass over the margin with good retraction. This helps preserve detail and minimizes unnecessary noise in the scan.

Follow a consistent bite scanning approach

Scan 3–4 teeth on both arches with even coverage to support precise alignment. Encourage the patient to bite naturally while scanning the cheek or occlusal space for best results.

How do I save raw scan data?

Raw scan data can be saved directly from the case management workflow. Saving raw data ensures that the original scan files are available for future review, editing, or transfer.

How do I use the Scan Compare feature?

The Scan Compare feature enables you to compare two scans to identify differences and track changes over time. This can be useful for treatment monitoring and case evaluations.

How do I clean the scanner lens?

Wipe it with a damp, clean cloth or lens tissue. You can use a clean cloth or lens tissue lightly dampened with 70% isopropyl alcohol or purified water to wipe the scanner tip lens. This will easily remove any dust or water spots.

Why isn't my scanner projecting light?

Is a static preview image displayed on the video preview screen?
If so, please try restarting the software.

Why can't I find my scanner in the software?

If your scanner does not appear in the Select Scanner window while the Status Indicator is blinking in breathing mode, try resetting the scanner's network connection.

To do this, while the Status Indicator is in breathing mode, press and hold both Scan Buttons on the scanner simultaneously for two seconds, then release them.

The scanner's light ring will start blinking rapidly before returning to breathing mode. Once the reset is complete, the scanner should appear in the Select Scanner window in the software.

If the scanner still does not appear, please feel free to contact our support team for assistance.

How does the Sirios X3 scanner connect to the software?

The scanner connects to the software using a wireless connection. You must plug a compatible wireless adapter into the computer before using. If the adapter is not connected, the scanner will not work. Once the adapter is connected, choose your scanner from the list to start using it. (see instruction manual page 6&7 ).

Why does my scan show a grey shadow or double image?

Check the scanner hardware
Ensure that both the scanner tip and scanner lens are clean before starting a new scan. Dust, fingerprints, or debris can negatively impact image quality and scanning accuracy.

Remove inaccurate scan data
Use the Trim tool to remove any incorrect, distorted, or mismatched scan data. This helps create a cleaner and more accurate 3D model.

Rescan any missing areas
Scan any areas that are incomplete to ensure the 3D model is fully captured. When scanning the incisors, follow the SIRIOS™ X3 scanning protocol by slowly wiggling the scanner over the front teeth. This allows the scanner to accurately capture both the buccal and lingual surfaces. Since incisors have a thin incisal edge, this technique helps record the detail needed for precise identification.

Save your progress
Once you are satisfied with the scan, save the case to ensure none of your improvements or additional scan data are lost.

What is the Excellence Club?

Enjoy peace of mind with the Excellence Club, our comprehensive service. 

With the Excellence Club you get:

  • Accidental drop coverage (limited to 1 swap per year)

  • Express replacement services

Is there a fee for the Excellence Club?

Straumann SIRIOS™ Excellence Club is always included free of charge for the first year.

After the first year an invoice is sent to you for the coming year. With this invoice, you will have a 12-month commitment period. Each year you will receive a new invoice for the coming year. The Excellence Club is valid for total three years.

How do I cancel my license for the Excellence Club?

If you would like to opt out, you need to send a cancellation to cadcam.support.se@straumann.com at least 60 days before the license is automatically renewed, else you will get an invoice for the second year. With this invoice, you will have a 12-month commitment period.
