Cologne, 13 March 2019: Today at the IDS, the world’s largest dental show, the Straumann Group is announcing further investments, partnerships and a stream of new products and solutions, which endorse its position as an innovation leader and total solution provider in esthetic dentistry.

Increased investments in Anthogyr and Medentika

In a separate release, the Group announced that it is increasing its stake in the French implant manufacturer Anthogyr from 30% to full ownership. In addition, the Group has increased its stake in its German partner Medentika from 51 to 91%. Medentika is a highly successful provider of attractively-priced implant prosthetics that are used with most leading implant and CADCAM systems. At the IDS, the Medentika is announcing that it now offers high quality prosthetics for value implant brands, including Osstem and HiOssen. Medentika is also complementing its implant range with a 3.8mm diameter version of its Quattrocone implant, which is smaller than the original and is designed to appeal to users of Camlog and other higher priced systems.

Collaboration with Medit

The Group has signed an agreement with the Korean company Medit, a global provider of digital dentistry solutions. The two companies will collaborate to promote the integration of digital workflows with Straumann’s open CADCAM software platform, DWOS, which Medit endorsesas its preferred CAD software. The agreement also provides the Group with distribution rights for Medit lab scanners, which will be fully integrated in the Straumann® CARES workflow. They will be sold under the Straumann brand in addition to its current Dental Wings scanner portfolio.

NEW PRODUCTS AND SOLUTIONS

This year the Straumann Group is introducing a stream of new products and solutions, whose availability in some markets is subject to regulatory approvals. The key novelties are highlighted below.

IMPLANTS

Straumann® BLX

Several years ago, Straumann began working with world-leading experts with the goal of developing the most advanced fully-tapered implant system. BLX is the result. Its innovative design, combined with Straumann’s proven Roxolid® and SLActive® technologies, creates a unique next-generation implant system that brings a new level of confidence to implantology.

Designed for immediacy, it is suitable for all treatment protocols – from immediate to conventional placement and loading – to suit the dentist’s preference. BLX is designed to optimize primary stability in all bone classes, to simplify restorative workflows and to achieve predictable outcomes, even in complex cases. It is available in a full range of diameters and lengths, together with a simplified versatile prosthetic portfolio.

The full market release of BLX in Europe starts at the IDS and is supported by a research and development program that started several years ago and includes a large non-interventional clinical program to evaluate the implant’s performance in everyday clinical practice.

Together with BLX, Straumann is launching an innovative drill concept, called Straumann® VeloDrill™. The main advantages are reduced heat generation, high drilling stability and timesavings.

Straumann® SNOW ceramic implant

The new, highly esthetic Straumann SNOW ceramic implant has a bone-level, apically-tapered, two-piece design for prosthetic flexibility and convenient handling. Unlike other implants, it features a ceramic connection screw, making it the first two-piece screw-retained dental implant to be completely metal- and plastic-free. It is available exclusively from Straumann and complements the company’s PURE ceramic tissue-level implant range. Together with its partner Z-Systems, who developed the implant, the Group offers the widest range of ceramic implant options, supported by digital workflows and biomaterial solutions.

New zygomatic implant concept

Despite recent launches, Straumann has a full development pipeline, which includes a premium zygomatic system, featuring innovative implant designs and an optimized prosthetics portfolio in addition to a full range of instruments. Zygomatic implants are used in the rehabilitation of patients with severe maxillary atrophy and Straumann’s approach will include training/education performed through dedicated centers of excellence and international key opinion leaders. The initial market release is planned for 2020.

Numerous additions to range of edentulous solutions

There are numerous additions to Straumann’s range of edentulous solutions including the Straumann® Mini Implant system for removable overdentures in patients with limited available bone. Straumann has also been working on its prosthetics portfolio and is presenting a series of new components for its screw-retained abutment portfolio, including new abutment designs and auxiliaries. In addition, the company is presenting a broad portfolio of angled screw-channel solutions, covering single/multi-tooth and edentulous indications and using a best-in-class self-retaining screwdriver.

ClearCorrect spreading smiles in Europe

Since the last IDS, the Group has expanded into the field of orthodontics through the acquisition of ClearCorrect. The latter develops and produces high-quality, easy-to-use clear-aligner solutions, which are transparent, removable, comfortable, attractively priced, and used typically to treat minor-to-medium malocclusions. Their popularity is growing rapidly and the number of cases increased 61% in 2018, driven mainly by the US. The Group successfully launched ClearCorrect in Brazil earlier this year and is now launching it in Europe at the IDS with a fresh new branding style. ClearCorrect is supported by a remote monitoring service using smartphone technology and artificial intelligence supplied by the Group’s partner, Dental Monitoring.

DIGITAL

Straumann® Virtuo Vivo

The exciting new Virtuo Vivo scanner offers high speed, powder free, color scanning at a highly attractive price. It is compact, comes in portable pod and cart versions, and has a very small light hand-piece with a removable autoclavable tip for easy handling and enhanced patient comfort.

3Shape TRIOS 4

Straumann also offers a co-branded version of the latest 3Shape TRIOS 4 intraoral scanner with fluorescent technology to identify surface caries, and zero-radiation infrared scanning to detect interproximal caries. This scanner addresses high-end customer requirements for state-of-the-art technology integrated in the validated Straumann workflow.

New in-lab scanner – Straumann® Virtuo Harmony

Virtuo Harmony, Straumann’s latest in-lab scanner is also on display at the IDS. It brings new levels of accuracy, speed, automation and productivity to the Straumann® CARES range and is fully integrated in the powerful DWOS CAD platform. It will be available later this year.

New generation 3D printing

New printing, cleaning and curing/finishing machines have been added to Straumann’s range of 3D printing equipment, which is used to produce temporary restorations, partial frameworks, bite splints, models, drill templates etc. The materials for the new machines are supplied in capsules/cartridges in tailored packages, saving time, eliminating mess and adding convenience.

DenToGo – a taste of the future today

DenToGo, the first part of the Straumann® Virtual Clinic, is a suite of software solutions using artificial intelligence and smartphone/tablet technology in four applications. The first assesses the patients’ oral situation prior to treatment. The second produces photo simulations of how the patient will look during and after treatment. The third monitors the progress of ClearCorrect aligner treatment remotely and the fourth is to provide a regular follow-up service after treatment completion to ensure stability and prevent relapse. The latter two can be done remotely i.e. without visiting the practice. Beyond orthodontics, DenToGo will have applications in preventive and implant dentistry in the future.

Preventive dentistry

In 2018, Straumann began to pilot a portfolio of innovative products in three European countries, including Germany, with a view to entering the field of preventive dentistry. The products can be seen on the Straumann stand and include: digital diagnostics for detecting early caries, biomaterials for remineralizing and regenerating enamel, solutions for detecting and treating periodontitis and peri-implantitis, digital and in-vitro diagnostics for detecting peri-implantitis and inflammation, and effective non-surgical treatments, including cleaning, biofilm removal, anti-inflammatory and regenerative solutions.

All of the above products and solutions are on display at the Straumann Group exhibition stands in Hall 4.2. at the IDS.

GROUP’S LARGEST PRESENCE AT A TRADE SHOW

The Straumann Group comprises multiple brands and partners, which combine to provide total solutions in esthetic dentistry across continents, customer groups and price segments. Most of the brands and partners are present at the IDS and in close proximity. Anthogyr, ClearCorrect, Dental Wings, Medentika and Neodent all have separate booths, while the largest exhibition stand is devoted to Straumann. Once again, Straumann is using a huge truck, which is parked nearby, to demonstrate its suite of digital solutions.

Education streamed live from the Arena of Confidence

At the heart of the Straumann stand is the Arena of Confidence, which serves for customer hospitality and presentations. On each day of the IDS, it will host 4-6 lectures given by experts and KOLs and streamed live on the internet. The topics range from Artificial Intelligence, implant immediacy, ceramic implants and full-arch rehabilitation, to intraoral scanners, 3D printing, clear aligners, and next generation dentistry. Details are available on www.straumann.com.
