Cusco/Peru. Basel, Zug/Switzerland. Improving access to oral healthcare in remote Andean communities is at the heart of the partnership between the Straumann Group Foundation and the Suyana Foundation in Peru. In the Yanatile district near Cusco, where geography and distance limit access to care, mobile solutions play a crucial role in reaching patients who would otherwise remain underserved.
Following the inauguration of a new dental practice in October and the launch of the first mobile dental unit, Tunki, the program has now reached an important next milestone. The second mobile dental vehicle, Qhaly, will begin operating in the field in February 2026.
Accompanied by a short video, this update provides additional background for those who did not see the initial story. The video shows live footage from the recent field visit, the installation of both mobile units, and the dental program in action for the first time. It also includes before-and-after images of the dental practice, clearly illustrating the progress achieved on the ground.
With two mobile dental units now active, the program significantly expands its reach, enabling professional dental care to be delivered directly to remote mountain communities. Tunki and Qhaly together mark the transition from inauguration to implementation — turning a shared vision into real impact for patients and communities.

A visit to the heart of Suyana's operations in Peru provided an opportunity to meet Alberto Arando de la Torre, the executive director for Peru and Bolivia and his team. This visit allowed us to gain firsthand insight into Suyana's approach and purpose.
