Discover the confidence that comes with a system trusted by over 95,000 dental professionals worldwide1. The Straumann® Variobase® XC portfolio for the Straumann iEXCEL Performance System empowers both dental technicians and restorative dentists to deliver a tailored solution for each unique case with flexibility and precision.
Rely on Straumann® Variobase® XC and its original Straumann implant-abutment connection. The next generation builds on the clinically proven performance of its predecessors2, with enhanced abutment bonding strength* designed to reduce the risk of debonding3.
Straumann® Variobase® XC helps you achieve uncompromised esthetics with ease from start to finish. Streamline customization with the versatile 7 mm high chimney. Skip sandblasting at the end thanks to the retention of the patent-pending laser surface.
Whether for screw-retained or cement-retained, digital workflows, the comprehensive and streamlined Straumann® Variobase® XC portfolio enables you to offer customized restorations with ease, even in challenging cases.

Customize with ease
The Straumann® Variobase® XC abutment features a 7 mm tall post that can be used at full height or shortened as needed to suit the clinical situation. Clearly defined machined grooves indicate recommended cut levels, allowing for precise height customization. This provides greater support for taller crowns while offering the flexibility to reduce the abutment height when necessary.
Design the restoration digitally using your preferred CAD software with library files that match the available abutment heights.
Enhanced bonding*
We roughen the abutment surface with a proprietary laser treatment, eliminating the step of sandblasting and helping you to avoid the potential risks of the process:
- Altering tolerances or structural components
- Reducing structural strength
Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with Straumann® Variobase® XC, knowing Straumannʼs Swiss engineering and precision manufacturing is completely intact

10-year retrospective clinical study to assess the rate of mechanical and technical complications and failures with implant-supported fixed dental prostheses. Prosthetic restorations on all 379 surviving Straumann® Tissue Level Implants were assessed. The implants had been restored with original Straumann components* between May 1997 and January 2001 at the University of Bern. The low mechanical/technical complication rate of 2.07% (n=13) (excludes complications of ceramic chipping 20.31%, loss of retention 2.06%, unknown reasons 0.26%, and failures 4.5%) Straumann® Original prosthetic secondary components show after 10 years underlines the exemplary attributes of Straumann® components. *pers. comm. Dr. Wittneben: For 278 out of the 303 patients 100% original Straumann® prosthetic components could be verified, 25 patients could not be reached anymore as dentists were retired. In total there were 13 abutment related complications (10x occlusal screw loosening, 1x occlusal screw fracture, 1x abutment loosening, 1x abutment fracture) after 10.75 years. The low number of abutment related complications Straumann secondary components showed after 10 years underlies the exemplary attributes of Straumann components.
